Colmore Junior School gallery.
The deputy headteacher at ColmoreJuniorSchool was keen to have some form of seating and a large stage sited in the main playground area but was unsure exactly what would be the best position and construction. Following an initial site visit to fully explore his idea and to offer our professional suggestions, we were able to design, build and install a custom-made solution which comprised of a two-tier stage measuring approximately 8m x 4m (32m²). The construction was made with a high-quality decking floor with a pergola style roof above which could be used to grow ivy or other climbing shrub up the sides and over the top, providing natural shade in the summer months. To the rear of the stage we installed a half-height shiplap timber wall and to the front six 1.8m width, free-standing benches for audience seating and break time socialising.
To complete the project we supplied a selection of round (8 seats) and rectangular (6 seats) picnic benches and some twin box planters with 1.8m linked benches in-between. The planters were supplied with a geotex membrane lining and a topsoil plus compost mix filling, ready for planting.
All of the equipment supplied was built using the finest Scandinavian 5ths kiln dried redwood, with radius corners to prevent splinter hazards, and treated with Tanalith® E which carries a 15 year guarantee against fungal decay and insect attack.
