Newtown Nursery School wanted their outdoor play areas to be spruced up and made more engaging for the children to use, even at times when the weather was not very good. Following an initial site visit and meeting with the Newtown Nursery School management team to discuss our ideas we set about the task of transforming the outside play area into something which would meet all of their requirements.
We started by constructing a large polycarbonate roof canopy with coloured wet pour safety surface underneath and a selection of custom-built digging and growing planters, some with seating. The safety surface was even extended inside the building giving them a colourful, clean and safe area for the indoor climbing frame they had.
Finally we undertook renovation works to an old multi-activity play tower which had rotted in several places and an old brick built sandpit which was not very user friendly. As you will see from the images below the sandpit now has a fully retractable lid which can also be used as a stage, half ship-lap panel sides and an apex roof with polycarbonate panels. This now provides additional shade in the summer months. You can see the finished results at Newtown Nursery School by floating your mouse pointer over the images!
